SHARJAH // Solar-powered warning signs and LED traffic lights have been installed in a bid to decrease power consumption and to offer more visible signs in poor weather.

Sharjah’s RTA has also reprogrammed traffic lights during Ramadan, to facilitate the flow of motorists during rush hours.

“We have reprogrammed traffic lights at 12 vital intersections and roundabouts in the emirate. The change comes to facilitate the flow of traffic during the holy month and to make sure motorists reach their destinations in a timely manner,” said Suliman Alhajiri, Sharjah RTA director.

“One hundred and eighty four solar-powered signs have been installed to aid motorists. Teams carried out maintenance and upgraded 389 traffic lights in all regions of Sharjah.”

The authority is currently evaluating whether to connect traffic lights systems in a bid to tackle traffic congestion in the emirate.
