RTA to reopen left and u-turns in Jumeirah Beach Residence

The Roads and Transport Authority has announced it will reopen the left and u-turns at the intersection of Al Sayora and Al Safouh Road in Jumeirah Beach Residence on Wednesday.

The intersection is also used by the Dubai Tram, which covers 10.6km including 11 stations.

The announcement follows an ongoing plan by the authority to reduce accidents at the intersection and along the tram track.

Hussain Al Banna, Director of Traffic, said the RTA had introduced a feature in the traffic light signalling system whereby all signals will turn red once the tram approaches the junction.

Surveillance cameras are also being installed to monitor vehicles that jump red signals.

Mr Al Banna said the left and u-turns had been closed to allow motorists to get acquainted with the tram movement in the area.

“The reopening of these turns is based on a preventive plan to fend off accidents and maintain the safety of the tram as well as motorists,” he said. The turns will be monitored for three months.

Mr Al Banna said there are plans to reopen the turn at the intersections of Al Sayora-Marina Road, Al Safouh-Marina Road and the Marina and Al Shurta Road on June 1.

On September 1, the RTA will reopen the turn at the intersection of Al Safouh and Al Gharbi Road.
