Two lanes of the Al Maqta Bridge in Abu Dhabi are to be closed until Sunday for maintenance.

The closure, which began on Wednesday, only applies to the Abu Dhabi-bound lanes and will continue until 5am on Sunday.

It was announced by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the start of the long weekend.

The municipality called on all motorists to exercise caution, use the diversions in place and slow down when approaching the bridge.

Al Maqta Bridge is about 300 metres long and was first constructed in 1967. It was the first bridge connecting Abu Dhabi island with the mainland and remains a key artery for traffic travelling between the city and areas such as Al Ain and the Western Region.
