Part of Emirates Road closed after accident in Sharjah

A major section of motorway was closed on Thursday after three heavy goods vehicles collided , with at least one bursting into flames.

SHARJAH // One man died and another was injured on Thursday in a crash in Sharjah involving three lorries.

The crash took place on Thursday on Emirates Road between Al Zubair and Al Rahmanyeh, leading police to close a major section of the motorway.

A lorry driver swerved and hit two other lorries, Sharjah Police said. One of the lorries caught fire and the driver burned to death, police said.

His body was taken to hospital. No documents proving his identity have been found.

Police patrols, ambulances and rescue teams were deployed to the scene to rescue the trapped motorists, police said.

Sharjah Police had shown images of civil defence crews hosing down the lorry that was scorched and close to falling onto its side.
