SHARJAH // Government and police officials have met to examine ways to make one of the country’s most dangerous roads safer.

Sharjah Police and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development examined proposed modifications to traffic diversions on Mleiha Road.

They also discussed a proposal to lower the speed limit before road curves.

The meeting is among the efforts of the government to reduce fatality rates on the UAE’s five most dangerous roads by 21 per cent from December last year until next month, compared with the same period last year.

The ministry is carrying out maintenance and development work to make Mleiha Road safer for motorists.

Earlier this month, road-safety experts and Sharjah residents welcomed a reduction in the speed limit on a stretch of Mleiha Road from 120kph to 100kph.
