Transport chiefs in Dubai have honoured an honest bus driver who found Dh250,000 on board his vehicle.

Noor Khan had finished his shift and was checking the empty bus before clocking off.

Mr Khan found a bag containing Dh250,000 and immediately told his supervisors, who helped to return the money to its rightful owner.

Mattar Al Tayer, director general of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, thanked the employee and said he was someone to emulate.

“We pride ourselves on having employees with such great discipline and fidelity at the RTA," Mr Al Tayer said.

"This bus driver took the proper action by handing over the bag to the buses supervisor. This behaviour boosts the public confidence when using public transport in Dubai."

Mr Khan, who drives a city route for the RTA, said he was just doing his job.

“Honouring me is a source of pride, not only for me but also for all employees in public buses," said Mr Khan, who was seen driving a bus to the city's Gold Souq in footage posted to the RTA's social media accounts.

"It is an incentive for all of us to redouble our efforts and exhibit more dedication and loyalty in doing our jobs.

"What I have done is part of my core duties."
