ABU DHABI // Four members of the same Al Ain family were killed when the car they were travelling in turned over in Buraimi on Friday.

Last rites were held on Saturday for 62-year-old J A S, his 52-year-old wife, M S S, their daughter, 22, and son, 19, who was driving the vehicle.

The family were all Omani but lived in Al Ain and were visiting relatives across the UAE border, according to a Muscat news report.

"The Omani family was returning to Wadi Jizzi from Buraimi after meeting their relatives," a family friend told the Times of Oman.

“The vehicle had reportedly developed some mechanical problem and went out of control.

“It flipped over more than three times killing everyone inside.

“The final rites were held in Buraimi. All the relatives are devastated by the loss.”

A 21-year-old and four children and teenagers, aged six to 17, were also injured in the accident.

It is not known whether they were related to the deceased.

Eleven people have lost their lives in road accidents in Oman over the past eight days, the report said.

An Indian couple died in a collision on January 23 and an Indian woman was burnt to death when her car crashed into an electric pole on Tuesday.

Four people– three Omanis and one Filipino – died the following day when the ambulance in which they were travelling collided with a lorry.
