ABU DHABI // Deep excavation works on the city’s 41km sewer tunnel, which runs from Al Mushrif to Al Wathba, have been completed.
Abdullah Ali Muslih Al Ahbabi, chairman of board at the Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company, said it was an outstanding achievement and part of the authority’s commitment to provide sustainable solutions and advanced infrastructure to the emirate, in line with President Sheikh Khalifa’s vision of a sustainable economy and safe society.
The excavations were carried out by eight boring machines under three contracts. Contract 1 was awarded to South Korea’s Samsung in 2011, and contracts 2 and 3 were awarded to Italian construction group Impregilo in 2009 and 2010.
The tunnel has a lifespan of 80 years and cost a total of Dh5.7 billion.
