A Dh397.6 million project to improve roads and infrastructure in Abu Dhabi was announced in the capital on Saturday.
The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport at Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Public Services Company, Musanada, is carrying out internal roads and infrastructure projects in Shawamikh to bring roads and infrastructure to international standards and offer modern services.
The first phase, which costs more than Dh259m, has already begun in sectors 7 and 12. It will be completed by the end of next year.
Musanada said it was committed to adopting the best standards in green sustainability, conservation of natural resources and environment protection.
Part of the project includes extending networks in communications and sewerage as well as water and electricity in 800 plots, of which 732 are residential.
Nine land plots are dedicated to religious purposes, including houses of worship, one land plot is a public utility and six are government-related.
Other work carried out includes road lighting and servicing, costing more than Dh16.3m.
Phase two in the Shawamakh area includes internal roads and infrastructure works in sectors 1, 2, 4, 5, 9 and 10, costing more than Dh138.6m. The work is expected to be finished in early 2019.
The municipality said the scope of the projects included designing and building 301 land plots, including 241 residential, seven dedicated to religious purposes, 10 for parks, three for public facilities, three for the government as well as one for educational purposes.
The projects will provide an integrated electricity, water, sewerage and communication infrastructure for all sectors to meet residents’ needs. They also include lighting works to improve the lighting efficiency of roads, costing more than Dh4.3m.
The municipality said the projects support the Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision to ensure sustainable development and become one of the world’s leading economies.
The capital has significantly improved its roads and traffic flow over the years, with a Dh109m project to improve Sheikh Zayed Tunnel and street launched in June.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.
