The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police will step up its patrols on the roads and around markets, malls and near mosques during Ramadan as part of a traffic safety plan to prevent accidents and traffic jams in the holy month.

Lt Col Hamad Al Shamsi, deputy director of the traffic investigation division said they had developed a plan to strengthen traffic monitoring on city roads and highways.

He urged motorists to observe traffic rules, maintain a safe distance from the car in front, use seatbelts, and avoid jumping red lights or using mobile phones.

Lt Col Al Shamsi also calls on drivers to respect the spiritual values of Ramadan, respect the rights of other road users and follow police instructions in jammed areas.

He urged pedestrians to use pedestrian crossings, footbridges and underpasses, and exercise caution before and after the Maghrib prayer.
