STUTTGART // Lovers of smart cars worldwide have until February 23 to customise their cars for the smart design contest. Launched in the first week of this month by smart car's parent company, Daimler, has set up a website, www.smart-design-contest.com which lets budding car customisers design a smart car via an online configurator. Voting will be via an online star rating system and the first prize is ?1,500 (Dh7,897) and cash prizes can also be won for voting and making comments on the designs on the website. More than 7,600 designs have already been submitted and winners will be announced on February 26. Among the designs already submitted, city maps and sunsets have so far proven popular and the more unusual creations include fractal patterns and pop art French bulldogs. The idea for the contest came via Daimler's Business Innovation Community, a platform on the company's intranet whereby employees from all departments and regions can post their ideas for developing and improving the business.
