DUBAI // Three young men whose 4x4 got stuck in sand in remote desert ended up being arrested for being high on drugs.
One 20-year-old Emirati student has been jailed for three months by Dubai Criminal Court for having hashish and other illegal substances in his system, while the other two have been referred to Dubai Court of Misdemeanours after they were found to have taken Tramadol.
The trio were stuck on November 3 last year when a police officer came to their rescue.
“I was in Deira when I saw a Toyota stuck in the sand and three men trying to dig into the sand and get it out,” said Yemeni policeman A Z, 23.
“I went to them and started helping, then noticed they were not normal. I asked them what they were doing in a deserted area at that time of the night but they did not answer and started saying that all they wanted was to get the car out of the sand.”
After calling for back-up, the officer said that drugs were found in the vehicle.
The three of them were tested for drugs, with a laboratory report confirming that the 20-year-old, H A, had consumed hashish and other illegal substances.
His co-defendants were found to be under the influence of Tramadol and were referred to Dubai Court of Misdemeanours, while H A was jailed for three months.
