DUBAI // The manager of a contracting company was given a suspended three-month jail term for threatening to kill staff from a rival company.
At Dubai Criminal Court last month, Egyptian H A, 40, denied charges of threatening to kill but was convicted. However, the court suspended his sentence for three years.
Prosecutors said H A had lost a contract for a project in Oud Metha to a rival in July last year.
On July 12, after the owner of the project had cancelled H A’s company’s licence, workers from the new company arrived at the construction site to take over but were confronted by a security guard, who prevented them from entering.
“The manager of our company, an engineer, a representative of the owner and myself headed to the location that day,” said Egyptian M A, a legal consultant.
He said that as they started to unload their equipment, the guard stopped them. M A called police as he feared a stand-off might develop.
Later, M A said H A arrived and threatened the manager and workers that he would “massacre” anyone who set foot on the site.
Emirati policeman R L, 28, was called. “I was briefed about the issue, after which I spoke to H A, asking him to resolve the matter amicably but he refused and started threatening,” the officer said.
