DUBAI // A soldier has appeared in court accused of raping his maid.

Emirati S A, 37, denied the charges at the criminal court on Monday, then said he had been waiting for six months to be released from prison on bail.

“My residence and workplace are known, where would I go?” he said.

Prosecutors said that on November 21 last year, the man returned home at 3pm and handed his Filipino maid his uniform to wash.

“He came back few minutes later and asked me if there was anyone at the house and when I said ‘no,’ he grabbed me by my arm and took me to his bedroom,” she said.

The 29-year-old woman screamed for help and begged in vain for him to let her go.

After he had raped her, he showered and then came to the bathroom where she was hiding and apologised to her in English.

She waited until he had left the house before sneaking out to take a bus to the Philippines Consulate, where she informed staff of the incident.

She was referred to the labour office that sorted out her visa, which sent her to Rashid Hospital.

There, they told her to go to the police station for a medical examination.

Police major A A, 35, testified that after the woman reported the incident to Al Qusais police station, a patrol was sent to the man’s house in Oud Al Mutainah area but he refused to open the door.

“We obtained a prosecution approval then an officer climbed the wall and then arrested the defendant,” said A A.

DNA tests on samples taken off the woman’s body matched the defendant.

Prosecutors said that he confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The next hearing will be on May 29 to hear the testimonies of witnesses.
