Sheikh Hamdan forms Dubai census committee

ABU DHABI // Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has formed a census committee in charge of estimating Dubai’s population.

Sheikh Hamdan issued a resolution forming the Dubai Supreme Census, which will oversee the emirate’s census procedures and policies for the next three years.

During this period the committee will be tasked with creating a more accurate account of Dubai’s population and demographics by identifying available sources for the census, studying methodologies for population estimation and connecting government databases to those of the Dubai Statistics Centre.

The Dubai Census Committee has been given the authority propose amendments to census procedures and policies and use local or international expertise and consultants to achieve its aims.

Chairing the committee will be the deputy chief of police and general security in Dubai, Lt Gen Dhahi Khalfan, while the secretary general of the Dubai Executive Council will be its deputy.

The resolution, which states that the committee is a provisional body attached to the Executive Council, has been effective from last Saturday and will be published in the Official Gazette.
