Students at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Sharjah are to build a fuel-efficient car for the 2015 Shell Eco-marathon Asia Competition.
It will be the first time HCT Sharjah students have taken part in the annual contest, to be held in Manila in July next year.
Dr Richard Gibb, executive dean of the faculty of engineering, technology and science, and Xavier Henry, general manager at Shell Markets Limited in the Middle East, signed a memorandum on Thursday that said Shell would support the students.
Six UAE teams will take part, along with students from Qatar, Egypt and Lebanon.
Winning vehicles will be those that travel the farthest using the least energy.
