DUBAI // A Saudi man who claimed the 190 kilograms of amphetamine tablets he was caught with were for personal use was jailed for three years.
Dubai Criminal Court convicted the 37-year-old of possessing 186.8kg of drugs to sell and with using drugs. He denied the first charge and admitted the second at his first court appearance.
Police, tipped off about him on January 30, arrested him the same day at his home in Al Muwaihat, Ajman.
An Emirati captain at Dubai Police anti-narcotics department said the arrest team, which included Ajman Police officers, “found amphetamine tablets in his pocket”.
He said that the Saudi admitted having more drugs at his home and in his car. Police recovered these and also found scales and plastic bags used to weigh and pack the drugs.
He was fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after serving his prison term.
