DUBAI// A 28-year-old salesman has denied publicly insulting his employer and slandering his company in an interview with an Indian TV news channel, heard a Dubai court.
The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours heard that PA, from India, is charged with threatening the manager of the jewellery company he worked for to distort his reputation and with insulting him and the company on the TV show. PA denied the charges.
Records stated that PA described the company’s system as unfair, and claimed the management would seize the passports of all employees after threatening them. He allegedly said the accommodation provided by the company was filled with dirt, unorganised and very small.
“He also said that the gold we sell was scrap and its weights was manipulated, he added that our accommodations were very small and did not have showers,” said Indian manager of the company DL, 42, in a statement to police.
DL added that the defendant threatened to cause him and his jewellery company problems if he was not paid Dh25,000.
On March 20 last year DL reported the defendant to police.
PA’s colleague NF testified that he was contacted by PA in April last year who asked him to inform the manager he would continue to harass him and distort his reputation if he did not pay Dh25,000.
A verdict is expected on March 25.
