DUBAI // A retired police officer raped a colleague’s 13-year-old daughter, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

On August 11 this year the 55-year-old, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, was arrested in Al Rafaa with the girl in his car.

“We were tipped off about him so kept him under observation and made the arrest when he met the girl and her brothers,” said an Emirati police officer.

The defendant had previously befriended the three siblings while they were fishing and told them he used to work with their father at Dubai police before he retired.

He won their trust by buying them presents and food and would meet up with them regularly.

The victim said the defendant would give her brothers money and send them off to buy food and while they were gone he would abuse her sexually.

“I was afraid to tell my mother,” the girl said.

Officers said they found several images of naked women on the man’s phone. They also found alcohol in his car.

A medical examination showed the girl had been raped and traces of her DNA were found on the defendant’s body and in his car. He denied a rape charge in court.

The next hearing will be on January 19.
