Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is launching a three-day initiative for Syrian refugees.

Our Hearts with the Syrians, a directive of the President, Sheikh Khalifa, will launch on Thursday and will offer help to refugees suffering in the severely cold weather.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and chairman of ERC, said the UAE had given its full support to Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries since the beginning of the crisis.

Red Crescent has pitched tents, built field hospitals and distributed hundreds of tonnes of foodstuff, shelter materials, medicines and other relief supplies to provide the refugees a decent life, the state news agency Wam reported.

Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE had responded to alleviate the suffering of refugees.

“Due to the wave of severe winter cold, rain and snow that flooded the refugee camps and affected children, women and elderly people, the UAE leadership has responded to the call of duty.

“In the light of these firm principles and stable policy towards the underprivileged, distressed and vulnerable people all over the world, Sheikh Khalifa has directed the organisation of a relief campaign.”

He said the campaign would “address the effects of the cold wave and torrential rain that swept Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, and badly affected the people who are living in the tents”.
