DUBAI // A policeman who made a deal with an absconding maid that they would have sex in return for not arresting her has been jailed for five years.
Emirati Y T, 38, was arrested minutes after he and the maid had sex in the back of someone else’s car as he was under surveillance, Dubai Criminal Court was told last September.
The officer had swapped cars with an Indian resident that he stopped days before, so that he was not seen in his own vehicle.
He and the Filipino woman, J C, 33, both faced a charge of offering a bribe. Both were convicted and Y T was handed five years, while J C was given three years, to be followed by deportation.
Dubai Police’s anti-corruption section had received several complaints about traffic cop Y T in relation to his repeated attempts to establish relationships with women in an attempt to get them into bed.
“We received complaints that he would stop women and ask for their mobile numbers then call them to start a friendship and attempt to have sex with them, especially if he found that any of them were wanted for an offence, so we had him under surveillance,” said Emirati lieutenant S H, 23.
He said that on May 25 last year, police received a tip-off that the defendant was meeting with a woman.
They followed him and at about 11pm he was seen driving his car into the car park of a men’s college.
“At 11.45pm his car was exiting the college, so we stopped it,” said lieutenant S H. “I went to talk to him but saw no one in the car with him. However, when I introduced myself, he became tense and denied having anyone in the car and that is when I noticed the sun shield covering the woman, who was sitting behind the driver’s seat.”
Both him and the maid were questioned by police for being at the college at such a late hour and both confessed to having sex in the car park.
“We then went to the spot where they parked and had sex and found evidence,” said S H.
Both were arrested and the officer also confessed to meeting the woman earlier in the day, while he was in uniform. After checking her ID, he knew she was in the country illegally so they agreed to have sex in return for him not arresting her.
Prosecutors also said that Y T confessed during investigations. The woman is also said to have revealed that she absconded from her sponsor in August 2013 to work as a cash-in-hand cleaner in hotels, cafes and agencies. She said the defendant saw her in Silicon Oasis with her friends and stopped her to ask for her ID.
She said that he first asked if she would clean his flat for free in return for letting her go but then changed his mind to demand sex.
“He picked me up in a car then switched cars and took me to a dark building’s car park, where we had sex,” said the maid.
A police lieutenant testified that Y T said to him that the maid had offered him sex but he did not ask for it.
The trial also heard from Indian A K, 32, who had been stopped by Y T a few days before his arrest. “He was questioning everything, even my work, then took my phone number and, on May 25, he called me and asked that he takes my car for a while and I take his convertible, so I said yes,” said A K, who added that he had no idea that the officer planned to use his car to have sex in.
The forensic report confirmed that both Y T and J C had sex just before being arrested.
The two were referred to Dubai Court of Misdemeanours on a charge of having consensual sex outside of wedlock.
