DUBAI // A Pakistani made threatening and abusive phone calls to an Indian man who had given evidence against him in a sexual assault case, the Criminal Court heard.

Evidence collected by police forensics investigators included 69 recordings of the man insulting and swearing at male and female staff in the victim’s workplace.

The Pakistani, 60, demanded Dh200,000 from the Indian, 50, and threatened to kill him, the court was told. He is also accused of insulting the victim’s colleague, a Palestinian, who said the caller sounded as if he was under the influence of alcohol.

“The reason behind his calls is that I previously testified against him in a sexual assault case,” the Indian man said.

The calls began nine months ago, several times a day from different phone numbers.

Police traced the calls to the Naif area, where the Pakistani was arrested with two mobile phones and five sim cards. Some of the numbers had been used to make the threatening calls.

The Pakistani denies making the calls. The next hearing will be on March 17.
