DUBAI // Just over 100 cases were dealt with by the Child and Women Protection Department at Dubai Police in the first nine months of the year – a considerable drop compared with 2014.
Brig Mohammed Al Murr, director of the Human Rights unit, said that there have been 112 cases this year, compared with 191 last year. Of this year’s cases, 55 were handled by the social support unit, 36 by the child unit and 21 by the women’s department.
Maj Shaheen Al Mazmi, director of the Child and Women Protection Department, said one of the cases involved helping a couple going through the divorce process agree on visitation arrangements.
“After a lot of arguing and agreeing to a divorce, the wife left the house and took the oldest 10-year-old daughter,” he said.
“For four months, the wife wouldn’t let the husband see his daughter, and the husband wouldn’t let his wife see her other three children, two girls, 9 and 7, and a four-year-old boy.”
Major Al Mazmi said that his team paved the way for an agreement for both parents to see all their children until the divorce was finalised.
“It was a very emotional get-together,” he said. “It is never fair that a fit parent is not allowed to see his or her children.”
