Not guilty verdict for cleaner accused of molesting girl upheld by Dubai court

The court said there was not enough evidence that the Bangladeshi man touched a 10-year-old British girl inappropriately.

DUBAI // A cleaner’s not guilty verdict in a case involving inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl has been upheld by Dubai Court of Appeal on Wednesday morning.

Bangladeshi T H, 33, was accused of touching the British girl’s private parts at Al Badia Golf Club on February 16.

The girl told prosecutors that, as she was at the toilet, the cleaner spotted her and asked her to come with him so he can show her his room but she refused.

“He then pulled me from my hand and dragged me to a tool’s room where he touched my private parts,” said the girl. “I pushed him away and opened the door then ran out.”

The child’s mother said: “It was about 4pm when my daughter headed to the toilets. She returned a few minutes later feeling bad so I asked her why and she said a cleaner tried to hug her.

“I didn’t give the matter much attention because I thought he wanted to hug her like his daughter but I told the manager of the club that no man should hug any child.”

She added that when they left her daughter told her more details so the mother returned and told the manager of the club before reporting the incident to police.

When police questioned the man, he denied the accusation and said that he was playing with the girl and did not touch her in any private area of her body.

He was acquitted due to a lack of evidence.
