ABU DHABI // About 8,000 people are expected to catch a glimpse of thousands of fireworks at Abu Dhabi Global Market Square and Al Maryah Island Promenade for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Food trucks are being set up in the capital’s square, while restaurants and retailers are putting in place preparations at The Galleria Mall on Al Maryah Island for late-night shopping and dining. Events will begin at 6pm.

Ali AlMheiri, executive director of Mubadala Real Estate and Infrastructure, said: “We are looking forward to hosting an unforgettable event in the heart of the capital for residents and visitors to Abu Dhabi. A variety of performances, fun, food and shopping will keep the whole family entertained in the build-up to the midnight countdown.”

Visitors are advised to arrive early to get the best views and allow enough time to pass through security.

To ensure a pleasant experience for visitors, access to the waterfront Promenade will be closed once it reaches full capacity and the Promenade will be stroller-free throughout the evening.

There will be designated stroller parks in the Global Market Square North and South so that guests with young children can park strollers securely and join the celebrations.

Families can also visit the dedicated kid’s zone and watch the fireworks in Global Market Square North and South.

More information can be found online at almaryahisland.ae/celebrate and visitors can share their experiences on the night by using the hashtag #AlMaryahIsland.

Simultaneous celebrations will also take place halfway across the world in New York City where, from midnight to 12.23am, Times Square screens will show Dubai’s celebrations live for the first time, according to the chief executive of Dubai Media.
