Speeding drivers are coming under further scrutiny by police with new mobile radar cameras to help improve safety on some of Sharjah’s busiest roads.
The new speed cameras are to be located on Al Dhaid Road, Maliha Road and Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
A video was posted on Sharjah Police social media accounts to explain the decision.
It is the latest move to improve safety on UAE roads by decreasing traffic accidents in line with the UAE’s National Agenda 2021 vision of making the country one of the world’s safest and most secure countries.
In December, police lowered the speed limit from 120kph to 100kph in central Sharjah after mobile speed radars caught 1,584 infringements while fixed radars recorded another 1,454.
Speed limits were reduced on the Al Quta to Nazwa Road, a move that was followed this week by speed reductions in Dubai on Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road after traffic surveys. Speed limits will be cut from 120kph to 110kph and come into force from October 15.
