Nearly 70,000 speeding offences on Sheikh Zayed Street in Abu Dhabi

A total of 69,859 violations were recorded in the former Al Salam Street in 2012.

Almost 70,000 speeding violations occurred on Sheikh Zayed Street in Abu Dhabi, formerly Al Salam Street, last year, according to police.

The Traffic and Patrols directorate at Abu Dhabi Police recorded 69,859 violations during 2012, said Brigadier General Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi.

He confirmed that measures have been taken to install new speed cameras on the street to limit excessive speeding.

He added that 22 accidents occurred on Sheikh Zayed Street last year, causing the death of four people and one severe injury.

Following field studies, the directorate found sufficient reasons to install new radars on Sheikh Zayed Street, as well as on Mussafah road.
