ABU DHABI // Motorists are being warned of road closures around the Corniche Breakwater as the adrenaline-packed Red Bull Air Race returns to the capital.
One lane of traffic will be closed inbound to Marina Mall while the Breakwater will be closed in both directions between 7am and 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
The event, on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche from February 13 to 14, is the start of the championship’s 2015 season which takes place in eight destinations.
The race is divided into qualifying day and race day.
This year, 14 pilots from 11 countries will compete in a qualifying round on Friday to determine their starting positions on the race day on Saturday.
The action on Friday kicks off at 1.40pm with skydivers to perform stunts for the spectators before the qualifying round begins at 2.30pm.
On Saturday, pre-race entertainment will start shortly before 1pm before the 14 pilots take to the skies. The contenders will be narrowed down with the the fastest eight racing at 4.05pm then the fastest four pilots competing in the final round at 4.30m. A winners ceremony will be held at 5.40pm.
A purpose built destination arena on the Corniche Breakwater will offer Race Club ticket holders unobstructed views of the racetrack, seating, an open buffet and beverages.
Fans can also get a front row seat for free at a dedicated Red Bull zone on the Corniche.
