DUBAI // A reckless driver fled from police by driving the wrong way down a busy motorway.
Salah Al Falasi, head of Dubai Traffic Prosecution, said the 35-year-old from an Arab country was stopped by police on November 17 last year. He sped off when ordered to show officers his licence and registration cards.
The defendant drove recklessly into traffic on Al Khail Road. When he was eventually stopped by police, his registration and licence were found to be expired.
The driver also refused to provide anti-narcotics officers with a sample to check if he was under the influence of any substance.
He was referred to Dubai Traffic Court, which found him guilty of reckless driving, using an expired licence, failing to renew the vehicle’s registration and obstructing justice.
He was sentenced to two years in jail and was fined Dh10,000. He will be deported after serving his term.
