DUBAI // More than 650 beauty salons and massage parlours have amassed fines of Dh504,000 for breaches uncovered during surprise inspections.
The 658 women’s and men’s salons, and massage parlours, were inspected by Dubai Municipality officials over a two month period.
Among the breaches noted was a general lack of hygiene, and staff who did not have health insurance cards.
More than 2,300 inspections were carried out, resulting in Dh235,000 in fines for the women’s salons, Dh232,000 in fines for the men’s salons, and Dh67,000 in fines for the massage parlours.
Hafedh Ghaloom, head of health control at the municipality’s Public Health and Safety Department, said inspections were on the rise.
“The Municipality is increasing the number of inspections on beauty salons and grooming centres periodically, while inspectors perform surprise inspection rounds in the evening time as well as routine inspections, to ensure that public health and safety requirements are met in the 1,628 men’s grooming centres and 1,557 women’s beauty salons throughout the emirate of Dubai.”
