Men jailed for stealing cables from Dubai mosque construction site

The Dubai Criminal Court heard how at about 1am on May 13, 2016, three Pakistanis attacked a 44-year-old Indian guard in Al Warqa.

DUBAI // Three men have been sentenced to three years in jail each for stealing 60 electric cables from a construction site after assaulting a security guard.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that about 1am on May 13 this year the three Pakistanis, aged 25 and 26, attacked the 44-year-old Indian guard in Al Warqa, where a mosque was being built.

“I woke up to a knife on my neck,” said the guard, who was assaulted, gagged and blindfolded.

“I was then carried somewhere else, which later I found was behind our office,” said the victim.

When he was able to untie himself he called police. Officers discovered cables worth Dh6,000 had been taken from the site.

One of the defendants was arrested at his home in Sharjah and charged with theft.

“During questioning, he confessed and told us about his accomplices,” said a policeman. The other men were arrested shortly afterward.

In court in September they all admitted to stealing the cables.

They will be deported after serving their prison terms.
