ABU DHABI // A man who killed his girlfriend’s ex-partner has been sentenced to death by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court.
AB, from Tunis, stabbed AS, from Egypt, to death after his girlfriend RQ, from Canada, incited him to do so, the court heard. RQ was sentenced to life in prison for inciting AB to murder, as well as four years in jail for consuming drugs and an additional year for engaging in illegal sexual activity with AB.
The court also sentenced AB to an additional year in jail for consuming drugs and another year for sexual activity with RQ.
Both RQ and AB confessed to police and prosecutors but later denied the charges in court.
When he first appeared in court in February, AB claimed he would not agree to kill someone on behalf of his girlfriend, who he had only been with for two months.
“I don’t understand the connection — if we speak logic why would I agree to be incited by her and murder someone I don’t even know, what will I benefit from all this?” argued AB.
“I’m not defending her, but our relationship was only for two months, there was no time for incitement and to commit adultery.”
AB denied ever hearing about the victim from RQ. He also claimed psychological illness, and presented psychiatric reports to the court to show that he was undergoing treatment.
The court head how RQ was accused of providing AB with a murder weapon, the victim’s personal information and dropping him off at the location of the crime. She was summoned by police investigating the murder after officers discovered text messages between her and AB.
