DUBAI // A man accused of smoking hashish, who claimed that his friends had spiked his shisha without him knowing it, has been jailed for four years.
Emirati J A, 42, was convicted of consuming hash at Dubai Criminal Court where, last December, he claimed that he did not know he had taken the drug until police told him he had tested positive for it.
“I had been visiting Oman and, when I returned, I was arrested. I was asked if I consumed hash and I said no, because I did not, but when police took a urine sample for testing and told me the results were positive, I knew my friends did it to me — they spiked my shisha with hashish without my knowledge,” said J A in court.
Prosecutors said police had been tipped off about the Emirati and, on October 15, he was arrested at his home, where no drugs were found.
“We then took him to the lab, where his tests came back positive for smoking hash,” testified policeman O Z, 39. “He then confessed willingly during questioning that he smoked it in Oman.”
