DUBAI // A man accidentally smoked hashish at his wedding celebrations, a court heard.
M A, 29, an Egyptian, was arrested 12 days after his marriage for consuming drugs after police acted on a tip off.
“We were informed that he possesses and uses hashish so we arrested him on August 18 while inside his car in Al Qusais area,” said A A, a narcotics officer, at Dubai Criminal Court on Sunday.
M A’s urine tests returned positive, after which he was charged with consuming drugs.
He was offered cigarettes by friends at his wedding celebrations in Egypt, some of which must have contained hashish, he said.
He told the judges he spent a week with his bride after which he had to return to the UAE.
A verdict will be issued on November 17.
