DUBAI // A man has been arrested for drunkenly assaulting another passenger on a flight from Dubai to London.

Police in London said the man was arrested after the British Airways flight landed in the UK capital on Friday.

“Police were called at 17.55hrs on Friday, 1 April, to reports of a disruptive passenger onboard an inbound flight to Heathrow Airport,” said a Metropolitan Police statement. “Officers attended and found a 21-year-old man who had assaulted a passenger.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and being drunk onboard an aircraft.”

The 21-year-old was taken to a west London police station and has been bailed to attend court in May.

The statement also said the injured passenger received medical assistance for a minor injury at the scene.

British Airways said it cannot comment further, as the man was arrested and bailed by police.

Reports identified the victim as Christopher McNerlin, who tweeted that he was bitten while trying to help a stewardess restrain “a violent passenger” on-board.

British Airways, in turn, thanked McNerlin, adding that the company hoped he was all right.
