SHARJAH // A 37-year-old Asian man had to be airlifted to hospital by helicopter from a ship after he broke his neck.

The Airwing Department of the Ministry of Interior received a call for request from the ship that was 7km out at sea.

Brig Gen Ali Mohammed Al Mazrouei, director of the Airwing department, said the search and rescue helicopter took off immediately with the first-aid team from Sharjah to the scene.

The ship did not have a helipad and the crew had to lift the stretcher to the helicopter from the deck.

Brig Gen pilot Abdullah Salem Al Dheeb, head of Sharjah Airwing, praised the cooperation between the ship’s crew and the helicopter crew. The man was airlifted to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah.
