Maid in Dubai caught thieving asked boss to help her ship stolen items home

A maid charged with stealing Dh50,000 worth of goods from her employer appeared in court today.

DUBAI // A maid was caught stealing after asking her boss to help her ship the pilfered goods home, a court heard today.
Among items worth Dh50,000 in total, the 33-year old Filipina maid was found in possession of two gold rings, two iPods and lingerie belonging to her employers.
"She said that she wanted to ship some boxes back home and we helped her set it up," said her Emirati employer, MO, an airline pilot. "But then I decided to check them before they were taken and discovered the lingerie, some of my clothes and my wife's clothes, my children's iPods the gold rings and more in the boxes."
M O told prosecutors he had suspected the maid was stealing, and wanted to deport her but his wife had talked him into giving her a second chance.
"She joined us six months ago and I spotted her taking items and storing them in her wardrobe," MO said.
MO said he warned her about stealing on several occasions but she had continued.
"My wife and I sat her down and warned her but when she continued I decided to send her back to the employment office and deport her," he said.
MO told prosecutors he reported the maid to police on November 11 after he checked the boxes MR intended to ship back home and found his wife's underwear and other items in there.
The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance is expected to issue its verdict this week.
