A woman who allegedly was offering illegal medical services at a Dubai hotel has been arrested, the Ministry of Health say.
It said a member of the public tipped off the health body about a brochure circulating in the UAE with a doctor promoting traditional Indian medicine.
An undercover inspector found the Asian woman was operating without a valid permit – in breach of federal law.
Dr Amin Al Amiri, the assistant undersecretary for health policies and licensing at the ministry, said the arrest showed the continuing efforts to crack down on illegal medical practices.
“Practising medicine without a license from any health authority in the UAE has a dangerous impact,” he said.
These practices are done away from the control and follow up of health authorities and by people who are unprofessional, he said.
“Such actions do not carry any safety or security standards and are always conducted in unqualified or unclean areas.”
Dr Al Amiri added that those practising without a valid permit can face fines or even jail.
Members of the public are being urged to report any illegal or unlicensed medical practices to the ministry or their local health authority.
