UMM AL QUWAIN // A restaurant has been shut down after health inspectors discovered 92 kilograms of rice that was unfit for consumption.

Staff fled the scene during the inspection after they were discovered not to have health cards, were not wearing uniforms and were not on the restaurant’s sponsorship.

The rice was confiscated and has been destroyed, while the restaurant had been fined and forced to close.

Ghanim Ali, head of the municipality health department, said all food facilities in the emirate were undergoing inspections.

He warned that any establishment found in breach of the regulations would be penalised.
