A new brand has been created for Dubai's mandatory health insurance, the Dubai Health Authority announced on Monday at Arab Health.

During a visit from Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and President of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Essa Al Maidoor, director general of the authority, said the insurance will be called Insurance System for Advancing Healthcare in Dubai, or Isahd. He added that Isahd also meant happiness in Arabic.

“In line with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the DHA has branded the name of the health insurance system to mean happiness.

“This stems from his words that the primary job of the government sector is to provide happiness to the people of Dubai,” Mr Al Maidoor said.

“Health insurance is a form of security and our aim is to ensure everyone in the emirate has access to essential health care in case they need it.”

The DHA discussed the roll out process and how companies can apply for a permit to issue insurance.

So far, 50 companies have registered and are currently under assessment.

Companies that pay less than Dh4,000 per month will need to meet a greater set of criteria to ensure they can provide an insurance package at an affordable rate between Dh500 and Dh700 annually.

Rollout of the new insurance will begin after a list of approved company names are announced at the end of next month.
