The Hamdan bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine promotes an integrated learning environment through its Dubai Dental Clinic and Dubai Healthcare City’s medical education centres.

It has 60 students at the college. All are licensed dentists who are pursing specialisations in various fields.

Screenings will not only benefit labourers but also increase the experience and knowledge of those looking to further their careers.

Dr Amer Sharif, managing director of education at DHCC, said: “We know from our screenings for blue collar workers that the people in this segment of society have significantly larger oral health issues linked to socio-economic factors, such as low income and limited education.

“What emerges from this is how necessary oral health initiatives are to ensure public health.

“We are committed to this initiative to improve oral health by driving action through screenings, by educating to increase knowledge, and by using the baseline measures to improve access.

“It is a privilege to be entrusted to reach this segment of society. We will – though screenings and through site visits – provide evidence-based approaches to prevention and treatment of oral diseases.

“We also hope the results from the screening will translate into research and in turn, help new treatments and cures.”
