Coronavirus: UAE authorities ask residents to postpone weddings and home parties

UAE authorities have urged the public to postpone all social events and weddings - both at home and in wedding halls - for the next month.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention, in co-ordination with the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority, said the new ruling would apply over the next four weeks.

Earlier in the day, Dubai Media Office tweeted that people should refrain from partying with guests in their homes until the end of March.

“As part of precautionary measures to safeguard the health of the community, Dubai’s Supreme Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management calls on the public to refrain from holding parties and wedding celebrations at home with immediate effect,” read the tweet.

Dubai Tourism announced on Monday that bars, clubs and lounges in Dubai would also be closed until the end of the month with immediate effect.

The move to stop house parties mirrors that from other nations across the globe who were trying to curb Covid-19 from spreading further.

In Ireland, the government asked the public not to organise any private parties at home as well as taking the measure of closing all pubs and hotel bars until the end of March.
