A swimming pool at a sports centre in Dubai has been shut down for flouting Covid-19 safety measures.

Dubai Economy issued the closure order after staff failed to display physical-distancing stickers.

Inspectors from the agency's Commercial Compliance and Consumer Protection Sector (CCCP) also imposed fines on three commercial establishments after staff showed a lack of commitment to wearing face masks.

A further four businesses were issued warnings over failure to comply with the guidelines.

Dubai Economy is carrying out extensive inspections of outlets across the emirate to ensure they are adhering to Covid-19 rules.

Premises were allowed to reopen as part of efforts to aid the economy in recent months, but were told they must comply with strict guidelines or risk sanctions.

The latest round of visits found 670 shops and commercial premises were fully complying with precautionary measures.

Authorities have warned of tough action against firms and individuals found breaking Covid-19 regulations laid down by officials to bolster public safety.

Meanwhile, Dubai Tourism closed four establishments for flouting coronavirus rules.

It also suspended the permits of 14 establishments and issued warnings to 19 others, it was announced on Sunday.

Dubai Police said it issued almost 3,300 warnings and 221 fines at four malls on Friday and Saturday, for breaches that included 31 gatherings, which are banned.

In Dubai Mall, 127 people were fined for not wearing a mask. A further 1,290 warnings were issued and 11 groups were found to be breaking rules on gatherings.

A further 1,091 warnings were issued in Mall of the Emirates, where 17 people were fined for not wearing masks and seven groups gathered unlawfully.

Dubai Economy called on consumers to report any non-compliance to the Covid-19 precautionary guidelines via the Dubai Consumer App available on Apple, Google, and Huawei stores, by calling 600545555, or on the Consumerrights.ae website.
