Volunteers in Ras Al Khaimah have launched the May Zayed Rest in Peace initiative that will see people take part on a fast on December 12. It will be followed by a mass iftar featuring the longest iftar table in the world.
The initiative was introduced under the patronage of Brigadier General Sheikh Talib bin Saqr Al Qasimi, commander of RAK Police.
Organisers are planning a 1,500 metre iftar table to beat the current world record held by Sharjah, which had a 1,008 metre-long table.
Khalil Al Jahmani, director of Galfar International Media in RAK, which has adopted the initiative, said the May Zayed Rest in Peace project will be held as part of this year’s National Day celebrations.
The initiative marks the 9th anniversary of Sheikh Zayed’s death. The Fatwa Department at Abu Dhabi Judicial Council confirmed that a voluntary fasting day is Shariaa compliant.
