ABU DHABI // Minister of State Abdullah bin Mohammed Saeed Ghobash is warning that conflict across the Middle East and North Africa poses a serious threat to regional and international security and peace.

Mr Ghobash told a meeting of United Nations ministers that the increasing frequency of conflict stemmed from extremist ideologies and terrorism that have grown in the past five years.

“We, in the UAE, are building a national model of moderation and tolerance to work on facing extremism and refute the brutal message promoted by extremists,” he said, noting that Abu Dhabi hosted the Hedaya Centre for countering violent extremism.

During the meeting, the Minister also highlighted the ways in which the UAE believed the restoration of security and stability can be achieved.

A key theme was resolution of major issues. He stressed the importance of a just and lasting settlement for Palestinians, and support for legitimate governments in conflict-affected countries to enable them to achieve stability and security and provide humanitarian assistance for their people.
