Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Development and International Cooperation and president of Zayed University, has congratulated the Government and people of the UAE for being the top country in the Middle East for treating women with respect.

The country was honoured by the Social Progress Index, which was launched by the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council.

The achievement was the fruit of the women empowerment policy established by the late Sheikh Zayed and pursued by the President, Khalifa, and Vice President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Sheikha Lubna said.

She emphasised the pivotal role of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, president of the General Women’s Union, in achieving this feat and in empowering women to work alongside men to build and develop the nation.

Sheikha Lubna added that the prudent leadership has supported and opened the door of education and work to Emirati women, which has allowed them to take all kinds of positions.

Sheikha Lubna said the UAE’s support for women extends beyond its borders. The country has provided cash donations to many third-world countries to provide education for women.

The UAE also backs a variety of causes and efforts supporting women worldwide.
