ABU DHABI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed met with blue-collar workers on Monday to express his gratitude for their work.

“The workers of our country are vital partners in the UAE’s journey of growth and development,” said Sheikh Mohammed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

“We extend salute of gratitude to them on the occasion of International Workers’ Day for their valuable contributions in driving growth and in their role of building our nation.”

A picture of him shaking hands with workers was published on his Instagram account.

His visit comes on Labour Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, which the UAE celebrates on May 1 every year.

On the occasion, the Ministry of Interior released its second edition of a booklet outlining the rights and responsibilities of UAE workers.

The booklet was distributed to workers nationwide and is available in Arabic, English, Urdu, Malayalam, Mandarin and Tagalog.

It is aimed at promoting awareness about local laws and catering to the country’s diverse population, reported Wam, the state news agency.

In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority also recognised workers. It distributed 600 meals to workers at a construction site and organised a picnic for 150 workers and drivers at Bollywood Park.

Mattar Al Tayer, director general of the agency, met the workers and thanked them for their efforts.

“These categories are worthy of commendation as they play a key role in making our life easy,” he said. “They directly or indirectly contribute to the development drive witnessed by the UAE and Dubai.”
