The Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, held a meeting in Lisbon with the president of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva.
Sheikh Abdullah, in the European capital on an official visit, underscored the historic relations between the UAE and Portugal, and the importance of enhancing them and building new bridges of communication between the two countries.
He also emphasised the importance of translating the two countries leaderships’ keenness on building fruitful cooperation and investment partnerships.
During the meeting, they discussed the overall cooperation relations between the UAE and Portugal and ways to enhance them to include domains that would contribute to opening new horizons of joint work as well as ways of creating partnership opportunities.
They also exchanged views on issues of joint interest between the two countries, food security, as well as the latest developments in the regional and international arenas. The pair were joined by other dignitaries, such as Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Khalid Ghanim Al Ghaith, and the UAE’s ambassador to Portugal, Sheikha Najla Al Qasimi.
The meeting was a sign of ongoing relations between the two countries that was formalised last November with the establishment of the UAE-Portuguese Joint Committee.
The two countries discussed common objectives, such as economy, trade, investment and health.
