SHARJAH // The minimum wage for Emiratis who work for Sharjah government has been raised to Dh12,000 per month.
The Sharjah Ruler, Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, ordered the increase from Dh10,000 on Tuesday. Citizens’ pensions have been raised to Dh12,000 as well.
“We have carried out two studies to raise the minimum wages upon the direction of the Sharjah Ruler. The results concluded that the raise will be applied to 3,555 individuals, at a cost of Dh40.3 million effective June 1,” said Tariq bin Khadem, director of Sharjah government’s human resources department.
He said studies carried out by the department concluded that citizens required Dh11,000 to be able to lead a comfortable life.
Sheikh Sultan also announced on radio and television that 6,000 out of 8,000 people who need financial support have been given aid.
“Their debts have been settled and their rents are being paid,” he said, adding that remaining cases would be dealt with soon.
