ABU DHABI // Members of the Federal National Council have called for better incentives for Emiratis working in education, medicine, nursing, media and tourism.
In a letter to President Sheikh Khalifa, members wrote that the Government needs to focus on these sectors, as well as others that help protect national identity.
The FNC also called for school curricula to be altered to include classes on national culture.
They added that the Government needed to work towards issuing a law protecting Arabic as a language in the country, as was promised by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Society Development and head of the Arabic Language Advisory Council.
Council members first called for the law in November following concerns about the diminishing use of Arabic.
Members also wrote in the 10-page letter that they were working within the scope of their powers given to them by the constitution to ensure the Government was working towards achieving the country’s 2021 vision for the UAE to be one of the best countries in the world.
They said the population imbalance and Emiratisation were still their main concerns, as were issues of national identity.
